Formula Student Germany:
DEKRA supports the next generation of engineers

DEKRA supports the Formula Student Germany – The expert organization is there for over 20 University and Technical College teams in Germany.

When thousands of young people from around the world descend on the Hockenheimring each year in the late summer, on this particular occasion it is for once not because of Formula 1 or DTM. Since 2006, it has been because over 100 University and Technical College teams want to test themselves on the traditional track against the rest over five days at the Formula Student Germany.

What is the Formula Student Germany exactly? It is an international competition for students which involves them constructing their own one-seater racing car and then racing them against each other. It is not necessarily the fastest car that wins, but instead the team that brings the best overall package to the table, the criteria being construction, performance, financial planning and sales arguments. The goal is to construct a racing car for hobby motor sport enthusiasts that has particularly good driving characteristics, but costs little, as well as being reliable and as simple as possible to operate. Since 2009, the differentiation has been made between cars with a combustion engine (Formula Student Combustion, FSC for short) and electrically powered cars (Formula Student Electric, FSE).

A jury of experts drawn from the motor sport, automobile and supplier industries evaluates the vehicles in terms of their construction and the respective teams in terms of their cost and business plans. Beyond this, the students must also show what their cars can do on the race track.

"The Formula Student offers future engineers the unique opportunity to develop personally and professionally", said Clemens Klinke, Member of the Executive Board at DEKRA SE and Chair of the Management Board at DEKRA Automobil GmbH. "Where else could innovative ideas for solutions to technical tasks be worked out and implemented by a team under such realistic conditions? DEKRA has supported this unique approach of the Formula Student from the very beginning."

The regulations mean that all vehicles have to undergo comprehensive acceptance examinations in order to guarantee the highest technical standards and complete safety. This means that the DEKRA experts are there to support the more than 20 sponsored University and Technical College.
